Vigna alla Sughera

Sangiovese · IGT Toscana Rosso

An elegant, maritime Sangiovese, born a few kilometres from the coast, between woodland and Mediterranean scrub. Its pale, garnet-leaning colour opens onto a floral, balsamic profile; the palate is velvety, firm and vertical, with a cleanness that underpins its ageing potential.

Viticulture and soil

The vineyard is farmed organically, with field preparations applied to soil and vine. Soil management works on its structure and on the exchange between the deep and surface layers, where the finer roots reach the mineral component.

Propolis, horsetail, copper and sulphur are used only when needed, according to the vintage. The spontaneous grass cover is paired with cover crops on alternate rows of field bean, clover, barley, vetch and radish.

Winemaking and profile

Vigna alla Sughera and Vigna ai Maiali, facing north-east and north-west respectively, are vinified separately in 1-tonne open vats, with hand punch-downs and pump-overs only when needed.

Vigna alla Sughera continues its maceration on the skins after fermentation and is drawn off after about six weeks. After 8 months in wood, the lots are blended and rest in concrete for another 8 months, before 12 months of ageing in bottle.
